Please join us for our next AFA McChord Field Chapter meeting on Tuesday, June 20th at 12:00 noon.  We’ll have a presentation from Brigadier General (Retired) Frank S. Goodell.

Join us in learning from General Goodell about the First Aerial Circumnavigation of the World – The Best-kept Secret in Aviation.  After almost six months en route, two Douglas World Cruiser Aircraft completed the first Around the World Flight landing at Sand Point Airfield near Seattle on September 28,1924. The fliers were supported by 36 ships while flying with pontoons when crossing the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans.  This flight is considered the second most important aviation achievement, exceeded only by the Wright Brother first controlled flight at Kitty Hawk.

BG (Ret) Goodell is a command pilot with more than 4,000 flying hours, including more than 600 combat and combat support missions flown in the Republic of the Congo, Dominican Republic and Southeast Asia. His military decorations and awards include the Meritorious Service Medal with three oak leaf clusters, Air Medal with eight oak leaf clusters, Air Force Commendation Medal with oak leaf cluster, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal with service star, Vietnam Service Medal with five service stars, Armed Forces Reserve Medal and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.
